A new watchdog organisation named DOGE UK has officially launched, with the aim of improving government efficiency and transparency at both central and local levels.
DOGE UK — short for Department of Government Efficiency UK, officially registered as Doge Project Ltd — draws inspiration from the United States initiative of the same name, backed by Elon Musk.
The project is an expansion of the Woke Waste Substack, a platform dedicated to uncovering questionable or excessive taxpayer-funded spending.
Founder Charlotte Gill, writing in a personal statement, said:
“Today I am delighted to announce the launch of DOGE UK, officially Doge Project Ltd, a taskforce that aims to enhance government efficiency and transparency.”
The Woke Waste project began in 2023 when Charlotte discovered that £668,244 of taxpayer money had been spent on a four-year study titled ‘Pregnant Men: An International Exploration of Trans Male Experiences and Practices of Reproduction’, carried out at two separate universities. What began as a single investigation soon evolved into a deeper exploration of publicly funded academic and activist work, raising questions about the use of taxpayer money.
Other projects cited in the Woke Waste archive include:
- £841,830 spent on ‘The Europe that Gay Porn Built, 1945–2000’ at Birmingham City University
- £243,360 allocated to ‘Buzzers for Bedwetters: Incontinence and the Urinary Body in Britain, 1870–1970’
- £2.9 million towards the ‘Decolonising Arts Institute’ at the University of London
- £113,220 to the Vagina Museum
- Over £1.4 million to The Paul Hamlyn Foundation, a charity that publicly supports open borders
- £141,380 to the Hope Not Hate Charitable Trust, which is linked to campaigns targeting political figures and groups considered to be on the right
Founder Charlotte noted the growth of the Woke Waste project over the past year and the high level of volunteer engagement it has received, stating:
“Luckily, as Woke Waste grew, I received countless offers of help – people volunteering their free time to join in the fight against woke insanity, funded by hard-working taxpayers.”
DOGE UK will now formalise and expand this work. The project will focus on:
- Auditing government waste at national and local levels
- Mapping Left-wing political and activist networks to assess their influence on democratic processes
- Publicising findings to raise awareness and influence policy reform
Key team members supporting the launch include Melanie Buila, who manages correspondence and administrative coordination, and Lee Taylor, Managing Director at the marketing agency Uncommon Sense, who has supported the development of DOGE UK’s new website and strategic framework.
Another significant contributor is Richard Palmer, Co-Founder at Fair Job UK, who is credited with helping to establish the organisation’s operational structure.
To support its activities, DOGE UK has opened donations via its new website. Funds will go towards staff salaries, equipment, administration, and further investigative capacity. The group also intends to seek investment and institutional support to scale up its work.
The core mission, according to the project, is to fight for a “better, fairer Britain — with more take-home pay” and a system that “puts taxpayers first, not activist agendas.”
DOGE UK’s website is now live, welcoming supporters and donors at https://doge-uk.com.
